Above and into the Haslital

The day before, we would have liked to cross the Aare Gorge. Unfortunately, as we were at the beginning of the season, only part of it was open. We would have had to retrace our steps, which is frustrating. The full opening was scheduled for the next day. So we decided to make a hike while ending with a visit to the gorges.

The start of our hike was at the arrival of the large gondola up from Meiringen. A second section of cable car leads up to the Mägisalp. However, we decided to stop at Reuti, which is the intermediate station.

From Reuti, a road leads to Weissenfluh. A little further on, this road turns into a forest road that crosses on the hillsides towards Riebgarti. Here you are above the Haslital and you have a view of the Engelhörner.

Further on, instead of descending directly to Wiler, we continued the trail to Grüöbi. Here we find the path down from the Jochpass, which forms one of the branches of the Via Sbrinz. The two junctions, one from the Obwald Lakes region and the other from the Engelberg Valley, meet at Innertkirchen. From there, the Via Sbrinz climbs up the Haslital, crosses the Grimsel, crosses the Griess and reaches Domodossola.

The descent to Wiler is quite steep in places, but it gives you a beautiful view of the Urbachtal, a valley above the Aar valley with a flat bottom. It is from this valley that you can reach the famous Gauligletscher.

From Innertkirchen we followed the dyke along the river Aare to reach the southern entrance to the Aareschlucht. The contrast was very strong as we had been alone for most of the day and there we found ourselves in a noisy and restless environment. Nevertheless, crossing the Aar Gorge is an experience to be carried out.
