I had heard about the Arête des Sommêtres for a long time, and I finally decided to go and see it up close. At the time when I used to go rock climbing regularly, I had heard that this place was a great place for this activity. A lot of time has passed since then, and a lot of changes have occurred, including my move to the Neuchâtel mountains.
That is why I decided to go and see it. I left from the centre of Noirmont, after having had a coffee at the Wenger bakery, and headed towards the Doubs to reach the Prés Derrières. From there, I followed a nearly flat path to reach the bottom of the valley at the foot of the ridge. After climbing up the valley, I reached the beginning of the ridge. There, a well-maintained path leads to the Spiegelberg Ruins. You pass by a cabin on the ridge.
For the return, I went through the Combes and behind the Noirmont Clinic. Since then, every time I go for a walk near my home in Sombaille or Pouillerel, I recognise the Arête des Sommêtres, a part of which can be seen.
