Über dem Lötschental

For the return, we had planned to descend to Goppenstein instead of crossing the Restipass and joining Leukerbad. We had made this decision because the return from Leukerbad would have been problematic. Indeed, to join the valley from the Restipass, we would have had to take the cable cars to Albinen, take a bus to Leukerbad and change buses, which would have been very complicated.

But instead of descending directly and following the valley floor, we had crossed the slopes to first reach the Kummenalp, then the Faldumalp via the Restialp. In doing so, we followed a path on the balcony above the Lötschental.

From Faldumalp, a signposted path leads down on the most direct route to Goppenstein. However, it should be noted that some passages, especially between the road and Zum Salä, are very steep. Further down, after passing a ruined barn, one must follow a small stream, making the terrain extremely muddy. It is only much further down that one finds a slightly drier path and a slightly less steep one. When you arrive in Goppenstein and you follow the protection dam, you must be careful, because a sign indicates a shortcut to the station.
