We wanted to take a little altitude again to find some coolness. The Mont d’Amin is quite suitable for this in the sense that a good part of the hike takes place in shaded places. This is particularly the case between the summit ridge and the Cernil-Chollet, at the Pertuis as well as in the valley below the Grande Berthière.
That day, we were surprised by the few people at the parking lot of the Col de la Vue des Alpes. We had expected to meet a lot more people. Similarly, when leaving the pass, only a few people were heading towards the Mont d’Amin, but they had stopped at the entrance to the forest covering the ridge after the first pastures of the Petit Mont d’Amin.
After crossing the ridge and descending to the Putteret, we had crossed the quite surprising gorge of the Pertuis before following the long valley leading to the Grande Berthière. This valley is quite long and monotonous (it has a length of 2Km), but it has the advantage of offering shade. Thus, we walked in the cool before emerging in the much drier pastures of the Chaux d’Amin. We were surprised to find that the terrain had remained very humid after the rains of July.
