Fifth day on the trail of Corina Bille

Before leaving Gurin for the bottom of the Maggia valley, we had visited the church of Gurin, but we had not attended the mass (it was a Wednesday), not quite like Corina Bille.

From Gurin, we followed a stretch of road before turning onto a path that descends quite steeply towards the Rovana, which we followed and crossed once before arriving in the vicinity of Corino. There, contrary to what I had undertaken 6 years earlier, we changed the riverbank to take a path on the left bank to descend to Collinasca (La Mürana). Our protagonists had probably followed the road that, at the time, described several bends just below Cerentino. But it is better, currently, to follow the aforementioned numbered itinerary.

At Collinasca, it is very important to follow the signs, as the path climbs steeply between two houses to follow the power line. The path then crosses the mountain flank and joins an astonishingly flat area near Camvera. There, you know that you are not very far from Linescio. At this locality, it is worth changing riverbank. To do so, you must descend by passing near the church and follow a signposted path that crosses the flank to join a magnificent bridge over the Rovana. After the bridge, you climb a path with steps and continue through the heights passing by Faido, which is a hamlet that was occupied until recently (the maps of the 1990s still mention it).

After Faido (which means beech in the local dialect), you cross a good stretch of the mountain flank before descending by a series of bends in the direction of Cevio. The Maggia is then not very far, and you notice from the temperature that you are approaching the bottom of the valley. This last stage offers a very marked contrast, as, while you were moving in a mountainous atmosphere made of pastures and rocks, you suddenly find yourself in very dense undergrowth, with chestnut trees as you arrive at the bottom of the valley.
