Between Chaumont and Cressier

Some time ago we had the idea to cross the crest starting from Chaumont. Moreover, having learned about the meridian gauge of the old chronometric observatory of Neuchâtel, we wanted to see it closer.

So, we took the funicular to go to Chaumont from Coudre. This funicular is special in the sense that there is no second cabin to act as counterweight. In this case, it is a funicular operated by a winch. When you learn that the distance covered by the funicular is 2Km, you can imagine the size of the winch’s reel.

After the funicular, we went to see the meridian gauge to return to Chaumont and then go to the highlands to reach Petit Chaumont. The whole path is essentially through the woods, which means that there are very few viewpoints on the Swiss plateau. It is only when you arrive at Enges that you can see the Lake of Neuchâtel and the plateau. Unfortunately, you soon must cross the forest again to arrive at Cressier where you are too low to have a clear view.

The consolation is that Cressier is a beautiful little town with very old buildings.
