From Sonceboz to Macolin

The last time we did this hike, the weather was not the best, and so we wanted to do it again. This time, the weather was a bit better, but there was a strong wind, which made the experience a bit unpleasant.

From Sonceboz, we followed the Jura Trail, which follows the bank of Suze for a while, and then heads towards the Métairie de Nidau. This part is not very exciting, as you are very close to the Transjurane and must put up with the noise of cars. After the Métairie de Nidau Farm, we left the Jura Trail and headed into the Porte des Enfers chasm. Enfers is a phonemic variation of “envers,” which often refers to the shadowy side. And that is indeed what it is, as the ravine leads to deep gorges on the shadow side.

After going through the chasm, we arrived at the Petite Métairie de Nidau, a surprising, isolated house that is now in the middle of the forest. After this house, we followed the rather monotonous and long ravine. When we came out into the pastures, we thought we had reached the end of the ravine. This was not the case, as the Graben part is quite long before you reach the road.

When we reached the road, we passed the Métairie de Gléresse before crossing a small depression to reach the crest above the Prés-d’Orvin. There, we went down to the road, which is quite busy and runs under the Prés-d’Orvin. As we went down, we realised that we would have to go down further and then go up on the other side to reach the Ende der Welt. This last climb is relatively short, and we soon reached the athletics track.
