This small hike is almost identical to the one done on 9 December (The Combe du Valanvron – Destination Montagne). There are almost two differences: there was a lot of snow between Christmas and New Year, and I took a different route out of the Combe du Valanvron.
As mentioned, the amount of snow that fell had caused a lot of damage to the trees. This meant that there were many trunks and branches that made the path difficult to follow. The path through the Combe du Valanvron was more like an obstacle course than a hike. I had to crawl under bent branches and jump over trunks. At one point, I decided to follow the riverbed of the Ronde, even though the pebbles were covered in snow and made the path difficult to follow.
After leaving the narrow part, I did not go to the fork in the path but crossed the Ronde immediately to take a forest road. Even though this path meant that I had to climb a little and then go down again, it had the advantage of being in the forest, where the snow was not as deep.
