The weather was supposed to be good, despite the north wind, and so we decided to climb to the Tablettes from Chambrelien. Even though the Tablettes are a popular place, the climb from Rochefort is not very popular. This is because there is a good amount of elevation gain to reach the edge of the rocks. We also decided not to stop at La Tourne, but to continue to the Ponts-de-Martel to take the train there.
We started from Chambrelien, crossing the railway tracks, and then climbed through the forest to reach the edge of the fields below Rochefort. We then climbed a small hill before descending and crossing the road leading to the Val de Travers. After passing through the village of Rochefort, we began by climbing a steep path along the Merdasson. After a while, a fork in the path allows you to follow a steep path up the side of the hill into the forest. It crosses a few forest roads before making a series of switchbacks in a rocky area. This is a sign that you are approaching your destination. After reaching a ridge that you follow, you soon reach the Tablettes and the magnificent viewpoint.
For the rest of the hike, we followed the very popular path that leads to La Tourne, climbing up the back of the hill and passing through the Combe des Fies and down to the Combe des Fontaines. We then soon reached the road to the Col de la Tourne, which you must follow to the Ponts-de-Martel.
